ACETATE RENEW
Our eyewear material is made from Mazzuchelli, Italy with Acetate Renew and handmade in southern China (AY Studios is ISCC PLUS Certified). Acetate Renew is born thanks to Eastman’s innovative Carbon Renewal Technology. This technology is a chemical recycling process which consists of breaking down plastic waste into primary molecules which are the main elements for the production of acetic anhydride.
Acetic anhydride reacts with cellulose to produce cellulose acetate. The result is a cellulose acetate composed of 60% bio based and 40% certified recycled content. Therefore, this process creates a 100% sustainable acetate flake using the waste normally sent to landfills, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. (Acetate Renew produces -20% -50% of greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional acetate).
The sunglasses are made in China, where we have a trusted partner with BSCI reports and ISCC certification. Once a year we are visiting the factory in the southern of China.

We’re constantly searching for new ways to achieve our goal of becoming net positive regarding environmental impact. This is why we’re closely engaged with our partner, Climaider, a digital platform and environmental initiative focused on finding new ways to take climate action in our everyday lives.
Through direct donations to Climaider, we support their ongoing initiatives and create our own. One of these is “One product sold, one tree planted”, meaning that we’ll plant a tree where it’s needed whenever you buy an AY Studios item. Through these projects, we support SDG 13 and several other SDGs.

FSC CERTIFIED PACKAGING
FSC Certified packaging is a responsible, international standard for paper-based packaging. The FSC standard assures buyers that the timber used to create paper originates from a forest managed according to the highest social, economic and environmental standards. The FSC Mixed Sources and FSC Recycled labels are based on wood from FSC-certified forests mixed with FSC-certified recycled material and wood products from controlled sources.
TOWARDS CIRCULARITY
We’re turning all of our plastic into more responsible alternatives. Whenever possible, we transport our products by train to reduce CO2 emissions — just like we work meticulously to minimise waste throughout our supply chain. This is all done in close partnerships with our suppliers across the globe. We are far from perfect, but we are doing many good things.
